Jesse Gormley named 2020 Delaware Valley Young Engineer of the Year

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Jesse Gormley, PE, ENV SP, has been selected by the Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia as the 2020 Delaware Valley Young Engineer of the Year. The annual award recognizes an outstanding engineer who is age 35 or under, has demonstrated leadership capabilities, and has made a recognized contribution to the engineering profession within the Greater Philadelphia region. Beyond the field of engineering, the recipient must also have contributed to and participated in charitable, civic, and technical affairs.

“Jesse is a proven leader and an exemplary civil engineer that has made significant contributions to the engineering profession and the Delaware Valley community,” said Kazi Hassan, Highway Supervisor and Senior Engineer at Pennoni. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jesse for more than 10 years, and his passion and dedication to engineering is unwavering. Whether it be his work at Pennoni or in his leadership roles in industry organizations, Jesse continues to lead by example and develop the next generation of engineers.”

Jesse joined Pennoni as a co-op nearly 12 years ago and now serves as a Project Engineer in Pennoni’s transportation division in Philadelphia. Jesse leads phases of many projects and is expanding into project management. Recently, he has been given a lead role in one of Pennoni’s largest current projects, the I-95 CAP (Central Access Philadelphia) project, where his focus is on the design of the bridge substructure.

Jesse also serves as president of the Younger Member Forum (YMF) of the Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Additionally, he is a former member of the ASCE National Committee on Younger Members and served three years as Pennoni’s campaign lead with the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

“Recognition from peers is the highest form of praise, so this award means a lot to me. I have the excellent fortune of knowing several past recipients, including three of my Pennoni colleagues, and I hold all of them in the highest esteem. Being on a list with these folks is really special. I would not be where I am without the support of Pennoni, especially my colleagues in transportation. I look forward to continuing my hard work at Pennoni to remain worthy of this honor,” said Jesse.

Jesse will be honored during Engineers Week next week.
