Pennsylvania Route 52 (PA 52) is a 11.8-mile-long state highway passing through suburban and rural areas along its route including alongside of Longwood Gardens. To improve traffic flow, PA 52 was realigned between US Route 1 and PA 926. The $15.4-million construction project included new alignment, widening and reconstruction of Route 1/Baltimore Pike, and widening of Route 926/Street Road at the approaches to Route 52. New pavement markings, signing, stormwater management facilities, erosion and sedimentation control measures, traffic signals, construction of a 500-foot-long bridge, landscaping, wetland replacement, stream enhancements, drainage facilities, utility relocation, concrete curb, pedestrian ramps, guiderail, and bituminous concrete paving were also completed. The project included extensive coordination with Longwood Gardens.
