Drexel University acquired and is developing a 14-acre site, adjacent to its main campus in West Philadelphia, formerly University City High School. Pennoni provided industrial hygiene services including conducting a comprehensive survey of the three schools for suspect asbestos-containing materials (ACM), lead-based paint, and other universal hazardous waste, which required nearly 200 hours of on-site investigation, sampling, and documentation.
From there, Pennoni developed plans and specifications for safe removal of all identified ACM from the buildings, including approximately 317,600 sf of friable spray-applied fireproofing. Pennoni then conducted the bid process, made recommendation of award to the client, and provided daily QA/QC inspections and air monitoring during the abatement and building demolition, which took place over a period of several months.
