No matter where you look today, sustainable practices are becoming increasingly popular and prominent. From eliminating plastic straws to energy efficient buildings, sustainability is forefront in our lives. It only seemed logical to follow an issue dedicated to water with an issue highlighting how sustainable design and practices touch many of our projects and our daily work.
Sustainability in the AEC industry is nothing new, nor is it new to our firm. So, what does sustainability mean to us? In my opinion, it means sustainable development: the organizing principle for sustaining finite resources necessary to provide for the needs of future generations of life on the planet. These practices need to incorporate the goals of social equality, economic, and environmental factors to achieve the “triple bottom line.”
