Rapidly advancing technologies and ever-changing public policies and regulations have forced roadway design, construction, operations, and maintenance practitioners to continuously gain new knowledge. This need for knowledge has driven the development of a research and technology transfer market within the transportation engineering industry using education practices along with contemporary tools and techniques.
Pennoni has been providing specialized highway related training services to public and private clients since 2005 when we recognized their need for services beyond the traditional preparation of engineering design documents and studies.
The foundation of our training services has been the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). During our tenure as the Pennsylvania LTAP technical subconsultant, Pennoni participated in the development of several technology transfer courses for use within the LTAP under a separate contract with the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS).
Our trainings have grown to serve public clients like the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), as well as local government agencies and authorities. We also serve private clients including utility companies and contractors. The trainings cover a variety of topics and course materials that are tailored to the clients’ needs. We have more than 20 experts who lead trainings, and because they are also practitioners equipped with the appropriate educational and experiential backgrounds to understand the needs of our clients, we bring a unique perspective to the research and technology services we provide.
Safety is a large part of every class we instruct, whether it’s on construction of asphalt pavements, inspection of pipe placement, construction documentation, signs and pavement markings, we have been involved in both developing and instructing several courses specifically on safety.
As a multidisciplinary firm, we gain exposure at many levels and by staying actively involved in these training efforts, we are always on top of the changing requirements. Through these trainings, we are providing the industry workforce to have the knowledge and skills to work safer and achieve their goals, which inevitably benefits the communities around us. Our training services have increased exponentially since 2005, and with the accelerating rate of change in our industry and growing client needs, we will continue on this trajectory and our experts stand ready to provide their expertise.
