Ever-expanding with growing businesses
The Philadelphia Navy Yard is 1,200 acres of diverse urban development along six miles of waterfront, home to more than 13,000 employees and 150 companies. Committed to smart energy innovation and sustainability, the area has been undergoing improvements for more than a decade. At the heart of the Navy Yard is a 5-acre green space called Central Green. The park features a 20-ft wide social walking track, sun lawn, restrooms, and recreational areas including a hammock grove, a picnic-type conference table, bocce court, table tennis, and fitness areas. The design incorporates green street design to manage the first inch of stormwater runoff to be directed to and treated by the lined bio-retention basin within the Central Green site. Pennoni completed the design of the site and the project was developed in a joint investment by Liberty Property/Synterra, PIDC, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
