The City of Bowling Green needed help identifying and resolving serious infiltration and inflow problems with their gravity sewer system. As part of a multi-phased Sanitary Sewer Collection System Mapping and Inflow/Infiltration (I/I) Evaluation Study, Pennoni performed a complete system survey, prepared a comprehensive utility map, and created an informational database of the City’s sewer system utilizing GIS software.
Surveying was performed in 2 phases due to the lack of available utility maps. The phase 1 survey consisted of horizontally locating a majority of the City’s sewer manholes, assigning GPS coordinates, and preparing an initial city-wide collection system map. The phase 2 survey consisted of opening up all manhole lids, surveying pipe inverts, and preparing a final collection system map with collected data. This effort supported and ultimately resulted in the City obtaining a 92% grant from FDEP’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program.
