Manchester-Boston Regional Airport

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport covers 1,500 acres south of Manchester, New Hampshire. Pennoni served as the design-build contractor for the City of Manchester, NH and the Department of Aviation on the custom design, fabrication and installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) facility. The PV facility, at the airport’s six-story parking garage, includes a canopy system, solar panels, SCADA system, inverter and structural and electrical engineering. The facility also includes fire protection, utility, energy-efficient lighting, signage and traffic protection improvements.

The solar PV arrays use 2210 solar panels supported by PV array canopy structural supports installed transversely across the 300-ft. wide parking garage for standard vehicle parking under the arrays. The PV system is directly connected to the parking garage main service panel where the system has an estimated DC rating of 530KW. The project included final configuration and sizing of the solar power equipment for PV system performance requirements, design and installation of electrical system components, structural supports, ancillary components and other modifications to the parking garage.

Pennoni provided design and construction services for lighting improvements integrated within the limits of PV facility and other parking garage components. Demolition services for removal of lighting fixtures, light poles and support structures met the PV facility and parking requirements. Design and installation of emergency egress, life safety equipment, signage and traffic protection devices required by building codes were also included. Pennoni provided full commissioning and start-up services, a consolidated Operations and Maintenance Manual, as-built drawings and training for airport personnel on the operation and maintenance of the PV facility.
